New Study Revealed Roku is the Most Popular Brand of Streaming Players

In terms of streaming media players, Roku is the most well-known brand, per a Park Associates Tech Eco System Dashboard report. According to a study that polled 8,000 US internet homes, 43% of owners of streaming media players (SMPs) said they use Roku more frequently than those who own Apple TV, Google Chromecast, and Amazon Fire TV.

Roku revealed earlier this week in its Q2 financial report that over 329 million hours of video are streamed by users per day. The $1 TV streaming service in America has acquired the popular sitcom The Goldbergs to bring it to The Roku Channel, continuing to grow its library of programming.

The analysis indicates that although Roku leads all SMPs, Smart TV continues to be the best option. 56% of US households who participated in the survey said their smart TV was their main video-consuming device. In contrast, only 34% of people say that their primary watching device is an SMP; however, when combined with a smart TV, that number rises to 90%.

“Streaming media players and smart TVs are much more affordable these days,” Lee stated. “These devices provide consumers with an ecosystem-consistent experience along with affordable solutions.”

In the US, 46% of homes have at least one streaming media player; yet, 68% of homes have a smart TV. For families with at least one entertainment device linked to the internet, the remaining gadgets that consume video are game consoles and smart Blu-ray players.
