Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is an Indian Netflix original Hindi-language drama created, produced, and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who adapted Moin Beg’s story into a screenplay. The series takes place in the dazzling red-light district of Lahore, Punjab, where courtesans reign as the queens of power and influence. Two warring courtesans, Mallikajaan and Fareedan, are locked in a fight for the succession of Heeramandi, where the former places the hope and future on her daughter, who is faced with a choice: the love of one man or the adulation of the masses.

Renewal Announcement

Just under a month after debuting on Netflix, the streaming service announced that it had renewed Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar for a second season. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the creator, director, and executive producer, expressed his gratitude for the love and appreciation the show has received and shared his excitement for the upcoming season.

Viewership and Popularity

Since its debut, Heeramandi has spent four weeks in the global top ten list for TV (Non-English), reaching as high as second place. In the four weeks since its debut, Heeramandi has amassed 90,900,000 hours viewed globally, which equates to 12,400,000 views. The series has performed exceptionally well in countries in and around the Middle East and India, remaining the most popular current TV series in India and Pakistan.

Expected Release Date

There were no hints towards a release date in the season 2 renewal announcement for Heeramandi. Given the first season’s production schedule, if season two follows suit, it may not return to Netflix until 2026.
